Ordinary World by Duran Duran. The first single from Duran Duran’s self-titled 1993 album, better known as The Wedding Album. It was their 7th studio album.

In Between Days by The Cure. 1985 single, the first from their 1985 album The Head on the Door, which was their 6th studio album.

The Modern World by The Jam. Title track from This Is the Modern World, their second studio album, released in November 1977, less than seven months after their debut.

One Way Ticket by Eruption. Request.

Fox on the Run by Sweet. Live from 1975. Request.

Ghost Town by The Specials. also known as The Special AKA, are an English 2 Tone and ska revival band formed in 1977 in Coventry. In 1981 this unemployment-themed single hit number one in the UK Singles Chart.

So Cold the Night by Communards. Track on their 1986 self-titled debut album. How much do you love Jimmy Somerville? Have you ever seen the youtube clip of him joining a busker who was performing Small Town Boy? It’s amazing.

I won’t let you down by Phd. No, not a bunch of academics, but the initials of the members’ surnames: Phillips, Hymas and Diamond (Simon, Tony & Jim respectively). This is their best known track, it came out in 1982 and was a top 10 hit in their native UK…it hit no. 3 here in Oz.

Hurts So Good by John Mellencamp. 1982, American Fool.

Shipbuilding by Elvis Costello. 1985 recording for Elvis himself but it was written during the Falklands War of 1982. The lyrics discuss the contradiction of the war bringing back prosperity to the traditional shipbuilding areas of northern England and Northern Ireland to build new ships to replace those being sunk in the war, whilst also sending off the sons of these areas to fight and, potentially, lose their lives in those same ships. The best known version of the song is the version recorded and released as a single by English singer-songwriter Robert Wyatt in August 1982 a few months after the Falklands War.

Eye of the Tiger by Gloria Gaynor. 1990. Request.

Aussie ska

*Big Red Bus by Strange Tenants. From their 1983 12″ EP ‘Take One Step’. Founded by the ‘Ska brothers’, Ian and Bruce Hearn, towards the end of 1981, the band was initially called The Catch, but they ditched this name in favor of Strange Tenants just prior to their first gig. They’re considered the Godfathers of Aussie ska.

*Alcohol by The Porkers. From their 1994 album, Grunt!, which was their second. They used to be The Pork Hunts but had to change it for obvious reasons…

*Hard World Mad World by Furious Turtles. Second track on their 1984 EP, Endangered Species.

*Ska Fever/Confucius by The Latenotes. Their 1989 demo single covering the Skatalites classic.

*I know You Know I Know by Naughty Rhythms. Canberra ska band active from 82-86. Not sure what year this is… Interestingly, their record company was called The Pink Label and those words were written over a triangle…message??

*Rude Boy, Rude Girl by Vegimite Reggae. From the compilation Ska Skank Down Under from 1990. Oddly, they spelled Vegemite wrong…

You Give Good Love by Whitney Houston. Live. Request.

Lets be Romantic by Babyface. Request.

Bow Down Mister by Boy George. Request.

Rock Steady by The Whispers. Request.
