Playlists

Show 310

In My House by The Mary Jane Girls. First single released from their second album, Only Four You in 1985. They hung in my home town with Rick James…boy, would I have loved to see what all these white Republicans did when this crew strolled into the local watering hole!!

I found Someone by Cher. Request.

Da’ Butt by E.U. 1988 debut single from this DC based band…it stands for Experience Unlimited. It was also on the School Daze soundtrack.

Cream by Prince. Request.

True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. Request.

Dear God by XTC. Originally the b-side to their single Grass, it was later included on a new edition of their 9th album, Skylarking, in 1986. The first verse and closing line are sung by eight-year-old Jasmine Veillette, the daughter of a friend of producer Todd Rundgren. In the video a boy lip-syncs her vocals. The lyrics are addressed to God, and vividly describe the range of human suffering, which the narrator attributes to God. Steal Away by Robbie Dupree. First single from his 1980 self-titled debut album.

I don’t want a lover by Texas. Request.

William Wilson by The Smithereens. Request.

Because the Night by Patty Smith. Request.

*The Good Life by Dear Enemy. Dear Enemy began life as a covers band called Stonewall (does this mean anything regarding their sexuality? I can’t find anything…). They started playing original songs, and changed their name to Dear Enemy, towards the end of 1980. The name came from a Ginger Meggs comic strip – the hero receives letters from his rival which are always addressed to ‘Dear Enemy’. This was a 1984 single.

*Leave me Alone by The Drongos.  Kiwi band of buskers who cut this album in NY City.

*Mr Right by Dr Raju. Live version recorded at The Vulcan Hotel in Sydney in the 80s sometime.

*True Fools Fall by Died Pretty.  1990 single from Died Pretty or sometimes The Died Pretty, an Australian alternative rock band founded by mainstay Ron Peno as lead singer and Brett Myers as lead guitarist and backing vocalist, in Sydney in 1983 – briefly as Final Solution.

*Proud by Dropbears. 1983 single.  Though the band played together for a number of years in the 80s and released 6 singles they never put out an album

*Pizza Pizza by Joe Dolce.  1984 single from this American guy who lived and worked largely in Australia – like Marcia Hines – and is best known for Shaddup ya Face.

A Glamorous Life by Sheila E. Request.

+Let’s Dancy by David Bowie.

+Who’s So Scared by Disappear Fear. Lesbian Sonia Rutstein. From her 1994 self-titled album, her third.

Running Up the Hill by Kate Bush. Request.

+Sideshow by Wendy and Lisa. Their second single, released in 1988 from their self-titled debut album.

+Compulsion by Carole Pope. 1987 live recording from the front woman of Rough Trade. She’s an open lesbian and also has done quite a bit of solo work.

Boing Boom Tschak by Kraftwerk. Request.
