Australian sixpack of Perth bands:

*Absolutely by Eurogliders.  Perth band fronted by Grace Knight and Bernie Lynch, who married briefly during the band’s hey day in mid-80s.  The title track from their 3rd album, released in 1985. This single was the 4th from the album and didn’t come out till 1986.

*Never Miss your Water by Diesel. From his 1993 album, The Lobbyist.  It was his fourth.  It was released as a single, his 5th as Diesel.  Mark Lizotte, aka Diesel, was born in the US but raised largely in Perth.

*Mountain Song by Supernaut.  1976 from their self-titled album. They were a glam/punk rock band from Perth, formed in 1974 and disbanded in 1980.

*Cut the Talking by The Dugites. Perth band who formed in the late ’70s. The name refers to the brown venomous snake common in the area. This single is from 1983.

*Wide Open Road  by The Triffids.  Formed in Perth in May 1978 with David McComb as singer-songwriter, guitarist, bass guitarist and keyboardist. They achieved negligible success in Australia, but greater success in the U.K. and Scandinavia in the 1980s, till they disbanded in 1989. 1986 single from Born Sandy Devotional, their second studio album, also 1986.

*At First Sight by The Stems.  From At First Sight, Violets Are Blue their debut album (a prior EP was their recording debut), released in August 1987 through Mushroom Records’ White Label on vinyl, the album only saw limited CD release at that time. But this title track “At First Sight” gained mainstream airplay and inclusion on the Young Einstein sound track. They were only active from 83-87, but did reform in 2003.

Ice Cream by Sarah McLachlan. From 1993’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy…though not released till the following year here, where it only hit 76 on the album charts.  Did much better in her native Canada and in the US, where it was her breakthrough album. (Play ASAP for Mel!)

The Milky Way by Aurora Borealis. 1994 single from this French hard trance outfit.

Divine Hammer by The Breeders. From their second album, 1993’s Last Splash.

America by KBC.  The KBC Band was formed in 1985 by former Jefferson Airplane (later Jefferson Starship) members Paul Kantner, Marty Balin and Jack Casady. Other members included Keith Crossan, Tim Gorman, Mark “Slick” Aguilar and Darrell Verdusco. This track is from their 1986 debut LP, “KBC Band”, though it probably attracted its most interest after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Friends by Scooter.  Request.
