NAIDOC Week & The Yalingwa Exhibition

Health, Indigenous Artists, NAIDOC, Society & Culture, Thorne Harbour Health (VAC)

Tex and Jessie open up the conversation around NAIDOC Week with guests, Hannah Presley, Allison Toby and Peter Waples-Crowe. The Victorian NAIDOC Week was held one week before the National NAIDOC Week – “This is good for us, because we get two weeks of celebration!”

Hannah, the curator of the new Yalingwa Visual Arts Initiative which will be delivered in partnership between the Australian Centre of Contemporary Art (ACCA) and the Tarrawarra Museum of Art in the Yarra Valley, shares with us her experience and what this means to her. The initiative that aims

to focus on supporting contemporary Indigenous artists, strengthening the Indigenous artists’ community and deepen engagement with the public, will be opening at ACCA during NAIDOC Week.

Peter and Allison come on to the show to talk about certain issues raised when it comes to Indigenous overall health and wellbeing. They open up and share about their personal experiences, giving us a different and interesting perspective on some issues. Peter is also one of the artists featured in the Yalingwa Exhibition.

For more information about the exhibition: Yalingwa: A Lightness of Spirit is a Measure of Happiness.

Happy NAIDOC Week!

This show, Episode #626 originally aired Thursday 6th July, 2018
