Holiday Health

Amelia and Venetia are in the studio talking with Jo Ball, CEO of Switchboard Victoria, and psychologist Josh Muller about how to look after your mental health this holiday season.

The festive season can be a stressful time for LGBTI folk for a number of reasons. Spending time with biological family can often mean having to defend, explain or hide who you are, or deal with the painful comments and opinions of family members. Some of us might even be estranged from our families of origin due to our sexuality or gender, and others of us may already be managing ongoing mental health issues, which may be exacerbated at this time of year. On top of that, there is the financial pressure of gift-giving and the pressure of wrapping up work tasks before the end of the year.

Josh provides us with some insight into how you might notice that you aren’t travelling too well and what we can do about it and Jo shares with us their three-point plan for managing social engagements and getting through the season intact.
