In the week that the world received some much needed education on transgender issues – albeit by the cover of a magazine – freelance writer and trans activist Eloise Brook joins Dean Beck on Word For Word.
Eloise is a board member of Sydney’s Gender Centre and shares some of her story at a time when news bulletins around the globe are focused on Caitlyn Jenner.
Far from being cynical about the media hype and Kardashian Konnections (sic), Eloise welcomes the celebrity spotlight giving rise to issues of transgender people throughout the world.
Next year the Australian Bureau of Statistics will undergo a national census and they are currently reviewing how they will categorise ‘sex’. Read why Eloise believes trans people need to be included.
