One Heart At A Time – the role of allies for LGBTI people of faith.

This episode of Word For Word is a continuation of the series – Inside Ex-Gay: The Naked Truth.

The series has explored in depth the struggles of those unable to reconcile their sexuality and faith.  In today’s episode we explore some of the challenges faced by allies of LGBTIQ people.  These are the heterosexual people within a church who are prepared to make a stand for their LGBTIQ friends.  Today we talk to two allies and discover what happens when they speak out in support of LGBTIQ people and why their voices are so important.

Natalie Cooper spent years working as an intensive care nurse, today she works in business development in the aged care sector, and is very aware of the pressures facing LGBTIQ people entering aged care.

Natalie is also co-chair of national LGBTIQ church apology movement Equal Voices.

 

 

Gwen was a teacher who was working in a conservative environment and felt restricted in the amount of support she could openly demonstrate in her support and affirmation of LGBTIQ students. She now works as a professional counsellor, with LGBTIQ people of faith.
