On 17 December, 2012 the Federal Minister for Health, The Hon. Tanya Plibersek announced that a Rapid HIV Test had been approved for use in Australia. What does that mean to Australia’s men who have sex with men? Why is Australia nearly a decade behind the rest of the World in its introduction of this medical technology? In today’s spedial edition of Word For Word we speak to the Federal Health Minister and ask why did it take so long? We chat to the Mark Volling, Managing Director the company who has had their test approved and Dr Tim Read takes us through the process of having a rapid test whilst revealing some concerning issues that surfaced during his research.
