Indigenous Canadian Inuit: Raising the flag for visibility

North and South America

The far northern Arctic region of Canada is the centre of Canada’s indigenous community – the Inuit.

What is it like when you are seemingly the only gay in a very cold village and your elders speak out and say that gays don’t exist in Inuit culture?

Do you hide? Do you simply shrug and accept it? Or do you speak out?

We spoke to Robbie Watt, founder of the Facebook page for LGBT and Queer Inuit in the Arctic, who chose to speak out when community elders stated there were no gays in Inuit culture.

This is the story of the power of one and the ripple effect that is being felt after Robbie spoke out. You will be inspired!
