Fiji: Women find their voice

The beautiful tourism images of pristine beaches on more than 332 islands contrasts deeply to Fiji’s political landscape. There have been four coups since independence in 1970 with the military playing a decisive role.

But there’s a new, strong and dynamic voice rising in Fiji…and it’s a female voice!

What impact are women, particularly young women, having on LGBTI rights in the Pacific paradise?

How do their messages feed into the new constitution? And what are their hopes for the future?

To understand gay life in Fiji, we spoke with Tara Chetty from Fiji Women’s Rights Movement.
