Tunisia: HIV proves key for LGBT

tunisia_flagBroadcast – 23 September 2014

Tunisia is a challenging place for same-sex attracted people. Same-sex activity is illegal and there is no recognised LGBT-rights movement.

However, HIV is being used as a tool of change.

  • How do you turn religious leaders from zealots to allies?
  • What is the gay community’s role in supporting these new found friends?

To learn more about gay life in Tunisia, we speak with Dr Khardija Moalla who works with the United Nations in the Middle East and North Africa region.

Dr Moalla is an expert in International law and human rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment. She is doing great work advocating for the human rights of the marginalised and vulnerable, particularly in the area of HIV and AIDS with at risk populations.
