Hong Kong: Queer Film in the Spotlight

hong_kong_flag
Broadcast – 03 May 2016

There was a great amount of anxiety in Hong Kong in the lead up to the transition of sovereignty from the United Kingdom to the People’s Republic of China. Based on China’s history and laws, this concern was heightened within the LGBTIQ community.

  • What made it so important for Hong Kong to revive its lesbian and gay film festival under Chinese rule?
  • Why are there so few Asian queer films being made?
  • What does having an LGBTIQ film festival say about a city?

We take our seats and nibble on our choc tops as we speak with Ray Yeung from the Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival.
