2016: Best of – Part 1

2016Broadcast – 20 December 2016

2016 was a big year in LGBTI rights – from battles on the floor of the United Nations, fights over marriage equality, violence and shootings, Pride marches and amazing, inspiring individuals.

We have captured a snapshot of change in LGBTI rights through the people we speak with each week on this show. This is the first part of a walk down memory lane to revisit some of the best interviews of 2016. Join us as we hear excerpts from;

  • Andre Du Plessis from ILGA – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association – who advocates for our rights at the United Nations
  • Dede Oetomo from Gaya Nusantara on the rapid rise in hate speech against Indonesia’s gay community
  • Robert Beachy, an expert in German history who enlightened us on Berlin’s vibrant ‘gay scene’ in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s
  • Jeff Prystajko from Orlando Pride on the post-Pulse shooting recovery
  • Ludovic-Mohamed Zahed, the world’s first gay Imam in France
  • Ray Yeung whose passion and determination kept the Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival from closure
