South-East Asia: Experiences of LGBTI Migrant Workers

A Very Beautiful But Heavy JacketAmong the 5.1 million migrant workers who are employed in South East Asia, little is still known about the motivations or experiences of migrant workers with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions. Even less information is available on the discrimination, violence and harassment that they may experience in the world of work.

It inspired the International Labour Organization, in partnership with UN Women, to commission a study, titled: A Very Beautiful But Heavy Jacket: The Experiences of Migrant Workers With Diverse Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression in South-East Asia. Emily Dwyer, Director at Edge Effect, was the lead author of the report and joins us tonight.
