HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE DEATH PENALTY

News & Politics, Worldwide

Our LGBTI community faces many challenging issues everyday all around the world. In Australia today, marriage equality is the big focus.  But in up to 13 nations around the world there exists the legal right to carry out the death penalty based on a person’s sexuality. And one Australian is determined to see the end to the death penalty around the world.

  • He defended convicted drug traffickers Van Tuong Nguyen and members of the Bali Nine
  • He was named the 2016 Victorian Australian of the Year in 2016 for his work as a barrister and human rights advocate
  • He has a reputation for defending people that no one else wants to defend

We were joined in the studio by a special guest – Melbourne Barrister and President of Reprieve Australia (www.reprieve.org.au), Julian McMahon.

Wit Julian we explore:

  • the death penalty and its implications for the LGBTI community around the world
  • what to do if you are travelling and caught up in a legal bind from drugs or sexuality
  • and we will find out more about Julian McMahon the person, his experiences and the advocacy work he does with Reprieve Australia.
