HONG KONG: MARCHING WITH PRIDE

Asia/Pacific, News & Politics

Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras began as a street fight.  It was a statement of visibility and defiance for a community that was either ignored or attacked.  Things in Hong Kong are not quite as bad at that, but change is slow and visibility of low.  Here, the World Wide Wave team walks the streets of Hong Kong Pride.
  • How do locals react to the Pride parade shuttling down the city streets?
  • When Taiwan passes marriage equality laws, what impact will it have on the rest of Asia?
  • Will hosting the Gay Games be the catalyst for change that many hope for?
In the spirit of Australia’s Mardi Gras, we share the voices, the hopes and the excitement of participants in Hong Kong’s Pride March and the winning city of the 2022 Gay Games.
