Nigeria: Queer City Podcast

Queer City PodcastThe largely conservative west African country of Nigeria is not a great place to be LGBT. Same-sex sexual activities are punishable by up to 14 years in prison. Acts of violence and blatant discrimination against LGBT people are rife. Between the mainly Muslim north and the Christian dominated south, there is little acceptance that LGBT people even exist. So how do you have visibility in such a challenging environment?

Timi decided that the stories of the queer community in Nigeria were remaining untold. He wanted a safe space where queer people could share their stories, their concerns and their hopes. So he created the Queer City Podcast as a way to connect local LGBT people and raise their profile in the broader community that queer people exist. And he has even bigger plans for the future of Nigeria’s rainbow community.
