This week we are presenting a program which showcases two featured artists: Stevie Wonder and Dusty Springfield. Both of these singers have had very successful and distinguished careers. Dusty is no longer with us, But Stevie certainly is!

Stevie Wonder was a child prodigy. He signed with Motown’s Tamla label at the age of eleven and has been blind since just after his birth. Stevie has become one of the most successful singer/songwriters of all time. He has recorded more than 30 top ten hits and received 22 Grammy Awards – the most of any male solo performer. Many of his songs such as ‘For Once In My Life’, ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’, and ‘I Just Called To Say I Love You’ have become classics.

Dustyis a darling of Joy radio listeners. Born Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O’Brien she wisely changed her name to Dusty Springfield. She was known as ‘the blue-eyed’ soul singer and was often mistaken for a black performer. Dusty broke into the US charts in 1963 with “I Only Want To Be With You’ which preceded Beatlemania. She went on to have 6 Us top ten singles. Her trademark appearance with her peroxide blonde bouffant hairstyle, her evening gowns and heavy make up made her an icon of the Sixties. We will play all your favourites by Dusty including ‘You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me’,’ Son Of A Preacher Man’, ‘Wishin’ And Hopin’ and the poignant ‘Going Back’.

Our album of the week is the self-titled album by the under-rated Australian Band The Reels. The track we are playing is their superb cover version of ‘This Guy’s in Love With You’.
