Yesterday Once More

Alliteration

Music

Hi Listeners,

Another literary theme this week: Alliteration. Easy to understand, it simply means songs with the same initial letter in the main words. Once again we are featuring a number of Aussie performers. Helen Reddy begins the program with her version of the sad story of the South ‘Delta Dawn’. Melbourne group, The Cherokees, covered ‘Minnie The Moocher’in the sixties with a lot of success. Stalwarts Johnny Farnham (Comic Conversation) and Col Joye (Bye Bye Baby) sing two of their biggest hits.

International stars, Tom Jones (Green Green Grass of Home) and Bob Dylan (Lay Lady Lay) head the program with two of their big hits. Perry Como, a long lasting and distinguished star, sings one of his big songs (Mandolins In The Moonlight). Graham Bonnet’s intense and emotional vocals shine through on ‘Baby Blue’ while Bobby Day’s popular ‘Rockin’ Robin’ still emerges today in various formats. Added to these is an exuberant surfie song by First Class (Beach Baby) and Linda Ronstadt’s first group, Stone Poneys, with their big hit ‘Different Drum’. Instrumental group, Johnny And The Hurricanes, scored with their rendition of the old song ‘Red River Valley’ re-named as ‘Red River Rock’.
