Seniors

Music

Hi Listeners

This week is Seniors Week. To celebrate it we are presenting a program of singers who have reached Senior status and who are still somewhat active in the music industry. The undoubted longevity and popularity puts the Rolling Stones (Tell Me) as the greatest surviving band of all time. Celebrating fifty years in the music industry Mick Jagger (73), Keith Richards (72), Charlie Watts (75) and Ronnie Wood (69) recently embarked on yet another world tour.

We will also feature six Aussie singers who have achieved Senior status. Dinah Lee (73,ex NZ) maintains the same energy she had in the sixties. To remind us of that energy we will play her big hit ‘Don’t You Know Yockomo’. Other Aussie singers still active include Lonnie Lee (76) with his big hit ‘Ain’t It So’ and Col Joye (80 – ‘Oh Yeh Uh Huh’). To round off the Australian contingent are Olivia Newton-John ( If You Love Me Let Me Know), Russell Morris (Sweet Sweet Love) and Renee Geyer (Say I Love You).

Petula Clark (83) has had a remarkable career especially in the UK and the continent. She recently toured Australia and showed she still has her style and voice. My favourite Petula Clark song is ‘Don’t Sleep In The Subway’. Perhaps the most remarkable longevity has been reached by Chuck Berry (89) one of the greatest rock n roll singers ever, fittingly singing the song voted the greatest rock n roll song of all time ‘Johnny B Goode’. Paul McCartney (Band On The Run) and Dolly Parton (Here You Come Again) round out a catalogue of suoerstars.
