JOY’s 21st Birthday & World AIDS Day on 1st December 2014 (Part1)

Gay, History, Icons, Lesbian

On this AIDS Day 1st Dec 2014, we commemorate the 21st Birthday of our radio station JOY in a special 2-hour broadcast from the Melbourne Town Hall. Please note that sound quality varies from time to time

We chat with John Oliver member #1 and the founder of JOY and Philip Burt JOY’s first Treasurer and we talk about the genesis of JOY, the early days getting organised, setting up JOY’s constitution, getting the technical equipment and finding premises. Also Brett Gray tells us about his vital role at the beginning with his IT and technical expertise. He went on to introduce many technological developments to JOY.

Anita Gibbons #198 joined in 1994 as an admin volunteer and later took over the program, Women on Waves, which was very popular. From 2000 she introduced many female comedians on the Comedy Spot.
