Playlists

Show 327

Is This Heaven by Sight Unseen. From the 1985 compilation album, Sounds Eclectic. It’s their only track, unless they are the same Sight Unseen that put out an album in 1969… I doubt it, even though Discogs cross-lists them.

+Native Love (Step by Step) by Divine. The original 12” version from 1982 from this gay artist. The album version is from his debut, My First Album. Glenn Milstead died at just 42 of an enlarged heart exacerbated by his obesity.

Kite by Kate Bush. Request.

+Touch Me by Samantha Fox. Britain’s number one p. 3 girl in the 80s…and yet I get to tick off yet another LGBTIQ track as she came out in 2003: “I have slept with other women but I’ve not been in love before Myra Stratton. People say I’m gay….I don’t know what I am. All I know is that I’m in love with Myra [Stratton, my manager]. I love her completely and want to spend the rest of my life with her.” Sadly, Stratton died in August of last year.

+Hold Me by Menudo. 1985 single featuring LGBTIQ artist Ricky Martin. He was with the band from 1984-89.

Channels by I Spy. 1982 single from this Dutch new wave outfit. They were busy throughout the 1980s, putting out their last single in 91.

Emotions by Mariah Carey. Request.

Baby be Mine by Michael Jackson. Request.

Nightstalking by Broken Silence. 1984 Canadian release, their only single.

Polet by Verasy. Belorussian synth music from 1985! Who knew?!! For some reason I got a bunch of links to these folks…and I loved it!  Hope you do too!

Aussies who have had acting careers as well

*Hand on your Heart by Kylie.  From 1989 has to come from Kylie!  Written and produced by Stock, Aitken & Waterman. It hit number four in Australia but became Minogue’s third number one in the UK. She started out on TV and has revisited her acting roots a couple of times.

*Magic by Olivia Newton-John. From the Xanadu soundtrack in 1980. It was her biggest hit…till Physical the next year. Her acting career needs no explanation.

*Rhythm of the Rain by Jason Donovan.  Jason Donovan’s 1990 cover of this 1962 Cascades’ tune.  He started off in the soap Neighbours and has done loads since then.

*I’ve done everything for You by Rick Springfield. 1981 cover of the Sammy Hagar tune from 1978…I’ll have to play the original sometime! Who knew?? It was Springfield’s follow up to the huge hit Jessie’s Girl. He was also a dr on US soap, General Hospital.

*My Machines by Jane Clifton.  1984 single. Jane is better known as badgirl Margo Gaffney on Australian tv drama series “Prisoner Cellblock H”.

*This is It by Dannii.  Covered on her second album Get into You (1993).  Original song written by Van McCoy and performed by Melba Moore for her fifth album This Is It (1976). She was of course on YTT and Home and Away.

*Suicide Blonde by INXS. Request.

The Other Side of Love by Yazoo. From the UK version of Upstairs at Eric’s. I had never even heard the damn song till I watched a fantastic doco about the band that Mark posted to the show’s FB page. Was it on the Aussie version??  Anybody know??

Surprised by Minks. From the 1984 compilation from Gender Records, Hit the Floor. They had a second track on the album, too, called Dangerous.

Four Day Romance by Doppler Effect. A b-side track on their 1988 EP Hard at Work.

Joey and Maria by Boys Say No. Their 1983 single release from Gender Records.

In the Night by Exhibit A. Track on their 1979 EP, No Elephants This Side Of Watford Gap. They were British
