map_of_USA_China_flagThe Melbourne Queer Film Festival – the largest queer film festival in the southern hemisphere – is in full swing. There are many stories about people who try to hide their sexuality in their life. There are also some stories of people who try to deny their culture.

  • But what happens when these two things collide?
  • How does culture influence coming out if you are from a country where being gay is seen as shameful?
  • And how is queer film making helping to bridge the divide of acceptance for both sexuality and culture in Chinese communities?

To tell us about his latest story, showing at the 2016 Melbourne Queer Film Festival, we spoke with Ray Yeung, Director of the film Front Cover.
