Pianist, Band Leader and Educator Romy Hernandez visited the Bent Notes studio to chat with David Moyle about her band El Numero Perfecto and their debut album – Charlie. El Numero Perfecto started life as a piano trio and has grown to a Quartet with the addition of percussionist Sebastian Orellana from Chile.
El Numero Perfecto love performing live and the band members have played the Melbourne scene for some years in a range of bands and stylings and felt that it was the right time to record their debut album as a snapshot of their always evolving and experimental sound. The new album, named Charlie in memory of a stray cat that became a pet, includes elements of Latin Jazz, Rock and Classical music. Romy studied under Andrea Keller and Barney McCall and acknowledges their “Aussie” influence on her “Latin” compositions. Compositions on the album are from Romy Hernandez and Emiliano Beltzer.
Hear Romy chat about the band and the debut album in this JOYcast from JOY 94.9 and learn that David has been looking at the album cover for a month and only just realises that the photo is of clouds!
Charlie is launched on August 15, 2018 at the Paris Cat Jazz Club.
Romy Hernandez was guest of Bent Notes on Sunday July 22, 2018
