Checkpoint Intimates: The Microtransactions Patch

Video Games

Checkpoint Intimates is a weekly podcast where two members of the team go one-on-one on a topic that they both feel strongly about, talking in a more deeper and, yes, intimate context.

This week, Elliot and Cameron pore over the latest patch notes to see if something untoward is going on. How is it that so many games are getting away with adding microtransactions to their games post launch with a patch update? Did you purchase this game knowing that was coming? Or did it catch you off guard when it suddenly appeared?

Elliot breaks down what games this year have used this tactic and how public opinion of microtransactions has played a part in this practice. Are companies releasing their games without microtransations and adding them later to increase their opening weekend sales? Cameron talks through how Destiny initially added Tess Everis and introduced microtransactions as well as the reality of when he partakes in microtransactions but also when he doesn’t care for them.

For all the latest updates as always, head to our official website at checkpointgaming.net.
