Tasty Jams: Homegrown

Playlist

Thanks for stopping by for the second installment of Tasty Jams, happy Wednesday etc and so on.

This week I really want to focus on some killer Australian artists that I think deserve the spotlight so it’s time to clean out those ears of yours and imbibe some seriously savory beats (your welcome).

As always, the jams featured in this blog are in no order of preference because there is no order of preference, the 5 tracks featured are valued for their ingenuity – now let’s get this ball rolling.

Before Max Wolf circumcised his name and reinvented his style he was known as Maximum Wolf, a Melbourne rocker with a distinctive style. When you listen to both Maximum Wolf and Max Wolf you can hear metal and rock influences which gives his sounds that point of difference and unique angle.

Remi has an arsenal of party vibe tracks that we all know and love, verses and rhymes about sangria and his love of green living but when the Aviation (Disco Weed) emcee shared with the world that his own father was discriminated due to the colour of his skin; another side of Remi Kolawole took the stage.

Beating your own drum – who ever said that borrowed that drum from Australia’s Voltera. The self managed, self taught outfit have been featured on two incredibly popular skating video games and in 2011 their U.S nationwide tour was canceled due to political content. When it comes to Australian music, Voltera are an asset.

Debut album landing number 1 in the ARIA Charts – Check

Have a cover go viral and be featured in a Superbowl commercial slot – Check

Have the artistic licence to collaborate and release tunes of his own wants and desires – Check

Chet Faker has fast become a house hold name – from his collaborative works with artists like Flume, Nkechi Anele from Saskwatch to his original works, it’s hard to fault the bloke.

When it comes to Nervo, Melbourne is a truly blessed city to be able to call Liv and Mim her daughters -the twin sisters have set crowds alight at Tomorrowland, Stereosonic and Mardi Gras to name a few. Whether you are listening to one of their releases or there in the mix watching them live, Nervo consistently showcase their honed talents through no other means than being themselves – artistically free and satisfying to the senses.
