MindOUT! An overview

Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

Presenter: Barry Taylor, LGBTI Health Alliance

In 2011 the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing funded the National LGBTI Health Alliance to implement MindOUT! LGBTI Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Project. The first national project of its kind, MindOUT! was originally funded for two years but received in December 2012 an extension of funding for a further twelve months.

The aim of the project is to improve the mental health and suicide prevention outcomes for LGBTI people. The project has two main objectives:

  • Assisting LGBTI organisations to be more responsive to suicide prevention and mental health issues for LGBTI persons and communities.
  • Working with mainstream mental health and suicide prevention organisations to assist them to be more responsive to the needs of LGBTI persons and communities.

This presentation will outline the project activities that have been undertaken so far
