Health in Difference 2013

19 Apr 2013

Dealing with diversity

Ageing and Aged Care, Cultural Determinants

Presenter: Norman Radican, Alzheimer’s South Australia

The cultural intersection of LGBTI, ATSI and CALD communities in dementia and aged care services.

Massive inequities in the current provision of dementia and aged care services systemically puts entire groups of people who are stigmatized, marginalized, culturally diverse or socially disadvantaged – people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Intersex, people who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds – at an even greater risk of being disadvantaged in accessing quality person-centered care. People who identify as coming from more than one of these culturally diverse groups are even further disadvantaged  in accessing inclusive and culturally appropriate services.
