Yen & Gemma share their first-hand understanding of the support Red Nose Day provides

Friday 11th of August is the 35th annual Red Nose Day, a national charity fundraising day where Australians are encouraged to wear a red nose and get silly, raising funds for a serious cause. The day encourages Australians to get on board to stop little lives being cut short by SIDS, and help grieving families get the support they need.

On JOY Breakfast Rach & Dean talked to a family with first-hand experience of this.

Rainbow family Yen and Gemma, a family from Canberra, have first-hand understanding of the importance of support that Red Nose Day provides.

Despite having reduced SIDS by 80% and investing more than $18 million into lifesaving research, and even though Red Nose Day’s work has been going strong for 35 years – it is far from over. 3,000 babies and young children still die suddenly from stillbirth, SUDI and other causes each year, and it is estimated that 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage.

By showing your support for Red Nose Day by donating, buying merchandise, or registering and hosting an event, you are helping to show your support to the families affected as well help invest the lifesaving research that continues to make a difference each day to the lives of many.

Every dollar raised on Red Nose Day will directly fund around-the-clock support services for grief-stricken families as well as education programs for new parents to help keep their babies safe.

Find out more about Red Nose Day here.

Please remember that you can find a host of LGBTQIA+ friendly support networks available to you here.
