Sunday September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day, and on JOY Breakfast, Rach & Dean were joined by Ryan Abramowitz, a queer artist raising awareness about suicide.
Ryan lost his father to suicide and is on a mission to talk about grief and why we need to remove the stigma surround it, especially for the children who are left behind and are learning to grieve. His debut picture book, Elegy for an Elephant is inspired by the journey of his family’s healing, repairing and processing of their grief.
The book is being released this Sunday on World Suicide Prevention day with an exhibition featuring his intricate and mesmerising illustrations being held in St Kilda at Bright Space Gallery.
