Sally Nicholes: Law Talk – Coercive Control

Coercive control is a type of domestic violence.

Sometimes referred to as ‘intimate terrorism’ or ‘intimate partner terrorism’, coercive control is a pattern of manipulative and controlling behaviours repeated over time designed to intimidate, isolate, and assert dominance over a person.

Unlike sexual, physical or verbal abuse, coercive control is more subtle yet equally harmful, and we are only now starting to understand its impacts and to discuss how to combat it.

While coercive control is still relatively new in public conversations, Nicholes Family Lawyers prioritises it in its social justice and law reform work.

Guest: Sally Nicholes, founder and Managing Partner at Nicholes Family Lawyers

Presenter: Warren Andrew
