Mental Health in the Workplace

Most employees aren’t equipped to deal with serious mental health issues on their own. Therefore, if mental health is going to be discussed, it’s very important to have different kinds of support in place in case disclosures of serious mental health issues arise.  While many organisations will supply cupcakes and have a candid discussion about how their workplace is contributing to employee stress and wellbeing, Swinburne Associate Professor in Management  Timothy Bednall says that organisations should be very careful about how they have these conversations. “Managers need to be concerned about the other person’s privacy, and how any disclosures regarding mental health issues are managed.

Guest: Associate Professor Timothy Bednall, Associate Professor in Management, Swinburne University
