Lefty Pinkoes

Emma J Hawkins

Actor, Arts, Dancer, Performer, Society & Culture

From Shakespeare to burlesque, including tap dancing stiltwalking and circus, Emma J Hawkins is a huge bundle of talent and energy who’s also a short statured performer/writer.

Emma J played Fleck in the huge Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Love Never Dies (and was nominated for a Green Room Award), and a murderess in the classic play The Maids.  She’s presently Yoda in the Star Wars Spectacular burlesque show touring Australia, as well as the Li’l Red Riding Hood character in the MTC’s Big Bad Wolf.  Emma sees performing as a way of challenging herself and audiences alike, believing the performing arts should be accessible to all.  She is a member of the Equity Diversity Committee;  Treasurer of Victorian Actors Benevolent Trust and her big news is that she is one of 25 recipients of the inaugural targeted Australia Council Artists with Disability grants program, to create her own solo work.

Emma J joins Kath in the Lefty Pinkos studio this week to share the joys and complexities of a creative career when you’re different.
