This week we acknowledge the five-week run at #1 in the Aussie charts for Pharrell Williams and “Happy” but we couldn’t resist something a little different (like us!). So we’ve found a remix by UK producer Danny Dove that gives this much-loved ditty a little more of a classic house feel.
Remember that Home Depot flashmob marriage proposal that went viral in September last year? Well, it resulted in US-based Sydney expat Betty Who scoring a major record deal with the accompanying song. “Somebody Loves You” finally gets an Australian radio release this week.
UK teenagers The Vamps scored a #3 in the UK and a top 20 in Australia with their debut “Can We Dance”. Their followup, Wild Heart, matched the debut performance in December at home, so the boys will be hoping to do at least as well again here.
Aussie boys 5 Seconds of Summer, who scored the worldwide tour support act with One Direction last year and were heard on JOY with their independent release Out of My Limit in late 2012, have now inked a deal with EMI, and She Looks So Perfect is their debut with the big guys.
Inaya Day’s boutique label Ny-O-Dae Music continues to release some classy house music with a varied selection of producers and vocalists. Lucius Lowe and New York local Devonde deliver the goods with “On the Dancefloor”.
The Cuban Brothers are from Edinburgh via Panama, it seems, and the lead single, So Sweet, from a forthcoming album is funky and fun.
Expat Melburnian, now Sydney-based independent musician Ryan Enright fronts My Lasting Reply, and the lead single from a new EP stole our heart this week.
UK producer Liam Keegan has been one of our favoured remixers over the years, and now he’s delivered his own production.
Sydney-based DJ-producer Tigerlily, with German duo 2Less, delivers a haunting modern main-room classic.
Set your alarm and tune into Rochén and Michael on the six at six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday morning at 6am.
