New music to weekdays (29 March 2017)
Originally harking from regional NSW and currently based in LA, independent electropop artist Phebe Starr kicks off our new music this week. Phebe has had plenty of support on Triple J over the last three years and has even had a song used in a Samsung TV commercial. Her latest single, Two Hearts, serves as the lead for her second EP, Chronicles, and provides her with her debut JOY playlist addition.
Veteran Melbourne-based DJ-producer Mobin Master is best known for his 2007 cover of the 1992 Robin S hit ‘Show Me Love’ featuring Karina Chavez and/or his 2008 cover of the Robin S hit ‘Show Me Love’ featuring Robin S! There have been a number of further covers by high-profile artists in the years since – some with Robin’s vocals, some with new vocalists. None of this is particularly relevant, except to say that Mobin continues to produce great house music in Melbourne more than a decade on. His latest single, Loving You, featuring American singer-songwriter Aly Frank, is a cool new addition to our mix this week.
Sydney-based disco-funk duo Midnight Pool Party return to our playlist with the lead single from their new EP, Dalliance. Out-and-proud lead singer Darren Morilla and musician-producer Oliver Dela Cruz have produced another piece of smooth, cool funk in Vulnerable.
Melbourne-based independent singer-songwriter Zain Mitchlan is not only a talented young out-and-proud artist but also a proud ambassador for The Bully Zero Australia Foundation. His latest single, Stand, earns him a place in our mix for the first time.
Sunshine Coast-based five-piece indie-pop band Selahphonic have been producing music for a couple of years. Their latest single, Had Our Heaven, is fun, competent pop-rock we couldn’t leave out.
Melbourne singer Kylie Auldist is currently riding a massive wave of support around the world on the back of her appearance on the Kungs vs Cooking on 3 Burners hit ‘This Girl’, and is also enjoying critical acclaim for her 2016 album, Family Affair. She’s turning into the go-to vocalist for cool house tracks internationally, and the latest is from British DJ-producer Marc Vedo. Ride of Your Life is everything ‘This Girl’ is, and possibly more.
Welsh out-and-proud singer-songwriter-DJ-producer Bright Light Bright Light continues to garner support from veteran performer-musician Sir Elton John. His latest single, Running Back to You, the fourth co-writing collaboration for the two artists, is more sparkly uplifting pop that will make you smile.
Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
