Say goodbye to 2020 with these brand-new tunes to Australia’s most uplifting music mix.
Earlier this year, out-and-proud Troye Sivan released his fifth EP, In a Dream. Its lead single, ‘Easy’, was well received by the Aussie singer-songwriter’s fans and warmly welcomed to JOY’s playlist. The song has had a rework thanks to American country singer-songwriter Kasey Musgraves and British producer Mark Ronson. Along with a brand-new verse written by Kasey comes a disco-pop beat to give it a little something extra.
Janet Jackson went platinum in 1997 with her single ‘Together Again’. Local gay singer (and soon to be Celebrity Apprentice) Anthony Callea has teamed up with Aussie singer-actress (and Masked Singer Australia winner) Bonnie Anderson to cover the song and give it a summer dancefloor feel.
Another Masked Singer Australia winner joins the additions this week, as Cody Simpson swaps his guitar for some synths. The Aussie heartthrob has joined Swedish production duo NAIROBI for ‘High Forever’. Being old mates, the trio decided it was time to write a song – and thank goodness they did. With a Sweden-meets-California feel, this one is sure to land on your summer playlist.
Twenty-five years ago, out-and-proud American DJ-producer Mark Picchiotti worked with singer Suzanne Palmer for the first time. That initial release, ‘There Will Come a Day’, became a disco hit, and their newest should hit the spot too. ‘Love Reaction’ is everything you could want in a disco bop and we think you’ll be dancing along.
Taylor Swift‘s ninth album, evermore, dropped last week to everyone’s surprise. The album’s lead single is ‘willow’ and it had a bit of a remix as a present for TayTay’s birthday (13 December). Swedish producer Elvira Anderfjärd added some sparkle to create the ‘dancing witch version’, which you’ll be hearing for your workday.
American singer-songwriter Gwen Stefani is back and she’s released ‘Let Me Reintroduce Myself’ to celebrate. Written while in quarantine, the new single has a reggae-rock feel to it that should bring back memories of No Doubt. We think you’ll appreciate the fun vibe of this one.
In case you needed reminding of how quickly time flies, it’s been twenty years since Coyote Ugly exploded onto our cinema screens. LeAnn Rimes provided the epic soundtrack for the movie, and its biggest song has been remixed for the anniversary. ‘Can’t Fight the Moonlight’ has been given the Dave Audé treatment, and we’re excited to have a JOY staple back on the scene. We’ll be lining up the movie on a streaming service, grabbing a bowl of popcorn and reliving this classic during the summer downtime – why not join us?
