The News and Views You Need To Know!

It’s OVER!  Victoria has voted and Big Dan is the Big Man atop Spring Street.  As today’s show went to air, the newly elected Labor Government was being sworn in at Government House.

Long-time LGBTI advocate and member for Richmond, Richard Wynn received the biggest promotion, from Shadow Minister for Housing to Minister for Planning.  Perhaps the biggest “win” for the LGBTI Community was the appointment of Australia’s first ever Minister for Equality, the member for Albert Park, Martin Foley.  Whilst little is known about how this whole-of-government, whole-of-society (excluding exemptions of course) portfolio might look like, there are few who could doubt this straight man’s commitment to all things diverse.

Martin Foley gets bonus points from this little black duck.  Whilst his seat of Albert Park was still too close to call on Monday morning, Mr. Foley attended the 9am launch of World AIDS Day 2014 at Federation Square.  Today’s show opens with Minister Foley sharing a very special letter he recently received from a constituent.

MAKING CONNECTIONS is the theme of midsumma 2015… and making connections they are!  Dean chats to the Festival Director Tennille Moisel about the 27th festival, now incorporating the 20th Pride March.  Having just returned from FEST in Adelaide, Tennille shares some exciting news about future collaborations and gives an overview of the 138 events packed into the 2015 program.  Get your copy of the 2015 midsumma festival guide here.
