Human Rights on the Big Screen

For this episode of Out Takes, we explore the inspiring and eye-opening terrain of the Human Rights Arts and Film Festival, and look at some of thi457516634_1280x568s year’s most affecting films to engage in the human rights discourse. These are powerful films that examine a broad range of topics: war, the environment, gender equality and LGBT issues.

HRAFF is a not-for-profit arts organisation that explores diverse human stories through, amongst other mediums, film. We’re joined by the festival’s Program Director, Malcolm Blaylock, to discuss what makes a film a ‘human rights’ film, and why audiences come back time and again to these important films.

We also speak with the makers of ORIENTED, a documentary that explores the lives of three gay Palestinian men as they struggle with their identities against a volatile political climate. screens as part of this years HRAFF line up, and also featured earlier this year at MQFF.
