Strong Women in Film

For this program, the Out Takes team celebrated powerful women in the global film industry – both in front of and behind the camera.

We kicked off by speaking with Sian Mitchell, the Festival Director of the Melbourne Women in Film Festival. The Melbourne Women in Film Festival is a not-for-profit festival aimed at celebrating and supporting the work of women filmmakers and creatives.

Next, we spoke with Chilean film maker Sebastian Lelio (pictured) about his new Oscar nominated film A FANTASTIC WOMAN, the story of a transgender singer who faces scorn and discrimination after the sudden death of her older boyfriend. It’s been hailed as the most pertinent testament to Trans experience since Boys Don’t Cry in 1999 and is a strong conteder to win Chile its first Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.
