They are a display of celebration, evoke all sorts of emotions form viewers and let’s face it, who doesn’t love something that sparkles in the night sky?

We are of course referring to fireworks, and while they may be pleasant to us, they can be terrifying for some dogs – particularly those suffering anxiety.

The December and January month are among the busiest for The Lost Dogs’ Home as we experience a spike in the number of incoming cats and dogs. Many come into our care after fleeing fireworks and storms, while others for a range of other reasons we will discuss shortly.

It’s definitely a busy time of the year and there’s plenty to talk about so over the next two weeks on Pets-A-Loud, we will be having a Summer Special.

Coming up on Pets-A-Loud this week:

  • Does your dog start panting and barking at the onset or just before a storm hits? How about during fireworks? Dr Caroline Butler from The Frank Samways Veterinary Clinic provides some helpful advice on how to gauge whether your pet has anxiety.
  • Lost Dogs Home Shelters are currently have cat adoption promotions for the month of December, so we Campaspe Shelter Kate Kemp.
  • We look at what’s under the Christmas tree for your luck pooch or kitty.
  • And dogs dates!
