David Hunt and Daniel White are co-hosting again today. David attended the opening night of the Melbourne Fringe Festival and Fringe Furniture (see last week) at Abbotsford Convent and was most impressed with the furniture. Our hosts discuss the ABC slashing TV and Radio Arts coverage and redirecting resources from TV to iView.

Special guests today are:

Dancer/Actor Joel Fenton and Choreographer/Director Darren Vizer talk about their backgrounds, the creative process and their show at the Fringe called Plunge on at the Fringe Hub from 18 to 25 September. Darren’s background is dance and acting. He went back to study and became a choreographer and director and has accumulated a huge body of work in the 3 years he’s been working. Joel is a dancer from Launceston who initially met Darren in Hobart and then more recently in Melbourne and has worked with him since. Plunge has 2 actor/dancers and is a blend of acting, dance and text conveying many messages about relationships including courtship, negotiation, bliss, rejection, aggression and touch—when is it ok or not ok.

Andrew Walsh is the Artistic Director of White Night Melbourne coming up on 20 February 2016. Andrew started working in the Arts Industry many years ago and loves working behind the scenes. Before White Night, he was involved with the Commonwealth Games and enjoyed telling the story of Melbourne and its inhabitants to the world in a magical way. He talks about the 5 different layers of putting together such a massive event as White Night which has been a huge success over the years and which 550,000 people attended last time. On the night itself there is a manpower of about 700 people who ensure things go smoothly and the city is clean, tidy and safe. For volunteers, artists, musicians and food vendors who want to get involved, they need to put in an Expression of Interest by 14 October (forms are available on the website). The website also has many pictures from previous events. The CBD will be closed to traffic and public transport will run all night.
