This is not a sign of the Apocalypse.
We get that no one expects your three favourite food-hounds, Christian, Patrick and Shannon to get in on the religious aspects of food but no one expected the Spanish Inquisition either. You’re going to have to move through your shock.
Today the team talk to Monash University religious researcher Tal Meretz, who occasionally appears on the programme Spirit Lounge, and lead off with the heavy subject of conversion through food.
We chat about food appropriation – how religious groups take a food item important to a culture and adopt it as a religious item. We roll into the debate about how genetic modification of foods may challenge religious rules, and then we talk about wine… on a Sunday during the day… no one is surprised.
