Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing) by Romeo Void. San Francisco band formed in 1979. The band primarily consisted of saxophonist Benjamin Bossi, vocalist Debora Iyall, guitarist Peter Woods, and bassist Frank Zincavage. This was their biggest hit, released in 1984 from their fourth studio album, Instincts.

Strange Relationship by Prince. Request.

Seether by Veruca Salt.  Founded in Chicago in 1993 by vocalist-guitarists Nina Gordon and Louise Post, drummer Jim Shapiro and bassist Steve Lack. This is their debut single from 1994; it was on their debut album, American Thighs, from the same year.

I Travel by Simple Minds. From their 1980 album, Empires and Dance, their third.

FM (No Static at All) by Steely Dan. Their only single from 1978 and the album, FM, from the same year.

Herjazz by Huggy Bear. A riot grrrl act from the UK, formed in 1991 and lasting till 1994. This is the 7” from 1993.

If Things Were Perfect by James. From the 1986 EP, Village Fire.

Aussies from Perth

*Good Luck by The Stockings. Perth band from around 1979-1982. This song was released as a single on the Rough Diamond label in 1981, and is also on their ‘Red Tango’ LP of that year.

*She’s a Monster by The Stems.  B-side to their 1984 debut single. They’re from Perth.

*Absolutely by Eurogliders.  Perth band fronted by Grace Knight and Bernie Lynch, who married briefly during the band’s hey day in mid-80s.  The title track from their 3rd album, released in 1985. This single was the 4th from the album and didn’t come out till 1986.

*Never Miss your Water by Diesel. From his 1993 album, The Lobbyist.  It was his fourth.  It was released as a single, his 5th as Diesel.  Mark Lizotte, aka Diesel, was born in the US but raised largely in Perth.

*Mountain Song by Supernaut.  1976 from their self-titled album. They were a glam/punk rock band from Perth, formed in 1974 and disbanded in 1980.

*Wide Open Road  by The Triffids.  Formed in Perth in May 1978 with David McComb as singer-songwriter, guitarist, bass guitarist and keyboardist. They achieved negligible success in Australia, but greater success in the U.K. and Scandinavia in the 1980s, till they disbanded in 1989. 1986 single from Born Sandy Devotional, their second studio album, also 1986.

The Trumpton Riots by Half Man Half Biscuit. Title track from their 1986 EP. The Trumpton Riots imagines a violent civil insurrection in Trumpton, a fictional town inhabited by stop-motion characters which featured in BBC TV children’s programmes of 1966–69.

Revolutionary Spirit by The Wild Swans. 1982 single release from this long-lived band from this post-punk band from Liverpool, England. They originally formed in 1980 shortly after Paul Simpson (ex-keyboards) left The Teardrop Explodes. The band’s personnel has been subject to regular turnover, with vocalist Simpson being the only constant member.
