Playlists

Show 307

US National Anthem by Whitney Houston. 1988 live recording. Request.

+Middle Aged Blues Boogie by Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women. The band was first formed as a duo in 1984 by Gaye Adegbalola and her guitar teacher, Ann Rabson, with third member Earlene Lewis joining later to form a trio. This is a 1990 track that won them Best Song of the Year at the 1990 W. C. Handy Awards (now the Blues Music Awards). Gaye Adegbalola came out in 2000.

Democracy by Leonard Cohen. Request

End of the World by REM. Request.

Rockin’ the Res by John Trundell. Request.

+Tutti Frutti Cassia Eller. The South American Melissa Etheridge. From her 1990 self-titled debut album.

+Två av Oss (Two of Us) by X Models. Swedish band fronted by Efva Affling. This was their only hit, released in the early 80s. She is married to fellow singer Eva Dahlgren.

Hooked on Classics by Louis Clark. Request.

+Caravan by Sheryl Bailey. From her 1995 debut album, Little Misunderstood. She’s an American jazz guitarist and music professor based in New York City. She and her partner, Dena DeRose, are apparently rare in the jazz world of being very out about their relationship.

Aussies from 1979 for no real reason…

*Hot Love by The Russell Morris Band. From their 1979 album, Foot in the Door. This band is new to me tonight.

*Walk All Over You by Ac/Dc. From Highway to Hell in 1979.

*Up there Cazaly by The Two-Man Band. Only one of three Aussie or NZ tracks to make the top 25 on the Australian charts for 1979.

*On the Inside by Lynne Hamilton. The second top 25 track by an Aussie. Though she isn’t exactly. She was born and raised in the UK and had a singing career there in the 50s and 60s. She moved here in 1971…where she owned a restaurant and car hire company (random!). Then somehow she got chosen to sing the theme song to Prisoner in 1979… Her bio lists her as an Evangelist minister too.

*Care for Kids by Kids. Australian theme song for the Intl year of the child in 1979. It finished the year at #77 on the Australian charts. New to me.

*Computer Games by Mi-sex. The highest charting of the three Aussie or NZ tracks to make the top 25 on the Australian charts for 1979.

Pacman Fever by Buckner & Garcia. 1982 one hit wonder. They did release a second song, Do the Donkey Kong, but it failed to chart.

The Way by Red 7. From their 1985 self-titled debut. They were a short-lived group, formed in 1984 in San Francisco as a side project of British musician Mike Rutherford (Genesis, Mike + the Mechanics). Rutherford produced their first album, played bass on several songs and sang in the choir on this track. The three core members were Michael Becker, Gene Stashuk and Paul Revelli.

Time Is A Ticky Talk by Klondike Karl.  This and the rest of my show, except the Aussies, is from the 1994 compilation album, The Obscurity File, from Oglio Records – an American record company started in 1993 by Carl Caprioglio. They are well known for issuing compilations of rare 1980’s modern rock and new wave songs, many of which were previously unreleased on CD.

Kinko the Clown by Ogden Edsl. The band formed back in 1970 in Nebraska and continued performing till 2001. This is a disturbing track about a pedophile clown… Apparently a lot of their music was like this…

Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage by Killer Pussy. The original was the title track to a 4-song EP released in 1982. They were a punk parody band from Phoenix, AZ.

Funky Poodle by Wild Horses.
