*Heart Plays Tricks by The Takeaways. From the 1984 ABC tv show Sweet & Sour about the fictional band The Takeaways, whose lead singer was voiced by Deborah Conway.

*Warnings Moving Clockwise by Do Re Mi. The third single by Australian rock/pop group Do-Re-Mi released by Virgin Records in December 1985 from their Domestic Harmony album.

*She Prefers Fire by Deborah Conway. 1993, Bitch Epic solo album, 5 years after the break up of Do Re Mi.

*Will you miss me when you’re sober by Deborah Conway. 1991 String of Pearls.

*Haunt You by Do Re Mi. A 1988 single from Happiest Place in Town, their second album.

*3 Love by Ultrasound. This was an experimental band Conway formed with her partner, Willy Zygier, as well as a few other Australian musos. They recorded one self-titled album in 1995 and released 2 singles…this is the second.

Everything Counts by Depeche Mode. 1989 single.

+This Town by the GoGos. From their 1981 debut album Beauty and the Beat, written by Charlotte Caffey and openly bisexual member Jane Wiedlin, as was much of their material. It was the first album entirely written and performed by an all-female band to top the charts in the US.

+Loverman by Communards. From Communards, the debut album by the band, released in 1985 on London Records. The album has a very Bronski Beat sound, Jimmy Somerville’s previous band, and this may be because it was produced by Mike Thorne, who had previously produced BB’s stuff.

+The Best of Times by Styx. 1981 single from Paradise Theater. Also featured in the 1999 movie Big Daddy, in which Adam Sandler’s character is a Styx fan. Chuck Panozzo is their LGBTIQ bass player. He’s been out since 2001 when he came out as gay and HIV positive.

+The Tide is High by Blondie. Blondie cover of a 1967 song written by John Holt and originally performed by The Paragons with John Holt as lead singer. The song went mainly unnoticed in the rest of the world until it was rediscovered in 1980 when it became a US/UK number 1 hit for Blondie (#4 here). From their 5^th album Autoamerican. I get to tick the box as Deborah Harry has spoken about having had intimate relationships with both men and women.

Yummer Yummer Man by Danielle Dax. After leaving Southend-On-Sea, one of the first places I visited in the UK in 1988…where they wondered why I wasn’t tan like people on Dynasty… Dax was in the Lemon Kittens and sang with League of Gentlemen on their debut album. This is from her third solo album, 1987’s Inky Bloaters. I played it a lot when it was first released and have very fond memories of the album.
