MELBOURNE – Austalia’s Cultural Capital

Arts, Health, News & Politics, Society & Culture

“A year in the life of…”
It’s hardly an original plot line, but Sophie Cunningham’s new book titled – MELBOURNE – is so much more than a series of overworked diary entries.
I’ve heard her describe the book as a photograph of the city …done with words. But I think it is much more than that too!
Indeed it is a snapshot of Melbourne in 2009 – it intimately details the happenings in and around the city as experienced by the author. It delivers historical references and she quotes other authors and newspaper articles throughout.
Melbourne is almost a tourist guide for pedestrians…in fact the publishers classify the book under ‘travel’….but I cannot help but feel that it would be most enjoyed by Melbournians.
to talk further about her connection the cultural capital is the author, Sophie Cunningham – thank you for joining us Word For Word
