Denmark: LGBT Utopia?

Europe

Denmark has four times been voted the happiest country in the world.  It was the first country in the world to legislate for same-sex partnerships and has an enviable list of LGBT rights and protections that are truly world-leading.  What is it that makes this such an open and welcoming society with one of the highest degrees of liberty in the world for its LGBT community?

We speak with the leading rights group, LGBT Denmark, about Danish society, culture and their road to LGBT rights.  We then post the question – what’s next?  We discuss the changing face of LGBT rights to one of monitoring rather than freedom fighting.  And we look at new issues affecting LGBT people including immigration.

We discover that Denmark also takes their international responsibilities seriously by taking up LGBT rights issues in countries where rights are quite poor, particularly eastern Europe.  And we hear of the excitement building as host country for Eurovision 2014.

Find out more on our W3JOY’s Denmark webpage.
