Human Rights Between the Sexes: The Rights of Intersex People Worldwide

Worldwide

World Wide Wave travels to a place we don’t often hear much about, the “I” in GLBTIQ.

Morgan Carpenter, President of Organisation Intersex International (OII) Australia takes us beyond what it means to be intersex in a physical sense and causes us to question and explore the challenges faced by intersex persons on a human, emotive level.

“What do you think it would feel like if you were made to be physically different to be acceptable in society?”

Morgan goes on to say;

“Normalisation surgery is more than physical reconstruction. The surgery is intended to deconstruct an intersex physiology and in turn construct an identity which conforms with stereotypical male and female gender categories”.

Sound intense? It certainly triggered a deep sense of compassion in all of us in the studio during the broadcast. So go on, get yourself a little more informed about the “I” in GLBTIQ – listen to the podcast!
