Burundi: A Rare Insight Into the Daily Life of LGBT People

LGBT BurundiIn the heart of Africa is the small Republic of Burundi. After years of instability, civil war and trauma, the country is currently rebuilding. But there isn’t a place for LGBT people in the current or future state of Burundi. Homosexual acts are punishable by jail terms and there is little or no acceptance in the general community. Yet LGBT people do exist.

One brave LGBT person spoke to us from Burundi. To protect his identity, we have called him Eric – a very common name in Burundi, and we have altered his voice. He gives us a very rare insight into what LGBT people experience in daily life, how they get by and even how it is helping to build an LGBT family.
