Cross-dressing in the UK… a ‘coming out’ of a different kind

The United Kingdom is often known for its scandals of parliamentarians dressing as women and having their compromising sexual situations splattered across the front pages of the tabloid press. But that surely must make it extra difficult for cross-dressers trying to quietly get on with their lives.

  • Many gay people sight ‘coming out’ as one of the great challenges of their lives. But what is it like to ‘come out’ as a cross-dresser?
  • What are the physical and emotional changes a male cross-dresser feels when they put on women’s clothes?
  • As a straight man, how do you introduce the concept that you are a cross-dresser to your female partner?

To unpack the complexities of cross-dressing in the UK, we spoke with Catie Maye – an out-and-proud cross-dresser and author of the book Men Can Wear Dresses Too.

Find out more on World Wide Wave’s cross-dressing page.
